Regions for Economic Change Conference, Building Sustainable Growth (Brussels, Belgium)

Data: 20/04/2010

20 & 21 May
For the 2010 Regions for Economic Change conference – "Building Sustainable Growth" we have adopted a new improved formula. The conference is organised in three modules. You can choose to attend either one module alone or any combination of modules you wish. This is to ensure that you can attend only these conference modules which are of the most interest for you. You will be able to make your selection through the registration system which will be available in mid February 2010 together with the detailed program. The conference purpose is to discuss key themes, to network and to exchange good practices at regional level through cohesion instruments:
Political discussion of key priorities
In-depth discussion policy challenges and good practice
the importance of cooperation and of spreading good practice
At the core of the conference will be the political forum in the afternoon of the first conference day. During the forum two high-profile key-note speakers will speak about research and ICT and about climate change, respectively, and prominent panels consisting of academics, European politicians and practioners will discuss about the future of European regional policy with a view towards the year 2020. The forum will be immediately followed by the prestigious RegioStars 2010 awards ceremony. Around the political forum there will be more specialised thematic seminars. In the morning of the first conference day a workshop session will present the cooperation programmes. The second conference day will feature the third conference module with three thematic workshops in two parts dealing with the challenges and responses. We expect more than 500 participants from regions all over Europe. The event will address representatives of:
Structural Funds managing authorities and implementing bodies;
national, regional and local administrations;
businesses organisations, banks and SMEs;
networks and associations;
universities, research and consultancy organisations;
regional media;
EU institutions
The political forum will be open to all interested participants while access to the more thematic modules will be more limited and it will be targeted at experts level and at Managing Authorities. Further explanations will be found on the online registration system.
Presentation will be given in English. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided for several EU official languages. Information on available languages will be published on the website two weeks before the event.
