LLANGOLLEN INTERNATIONAL MUSICAL EISTEDDFOD

4 - 10 JULY 2011

Every summer since 1947 Llangollen has staged one of the world's most inspirational cultural festivals. Each year around 4000 performers from approximately 50 countries arrive in this beautiful small Welsh town to sing and dance at the Royal Pavilion in a unique combination of music, dance and international peace and friendship.

Central to the concept of an Eisteddfod is its competitions. At Llangollen you will find over twenty competitions. These include choral competitions, and vocal and instrumental solos, all for varying age ranges, and several folk competitions for dancers, singers and musicians.

Several of the world's greatest stars (including Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo) began their careers at Llangollen. The climax of the week is the competition to win the Pavarotti Choir of the World Trophy, which was dedicated to Llangollen by the late, great tenor in memory of his father. The Philippine House of Representatives have passed a resolution calling it the "most prestigious choir competition in the world".

There is something unique and magical about the atmosphere at Llangollen. You have to experience it to understand it fully! Local people still host our overseas visitors - and cheer them on. Performances, some of them impromptu, take place in the Pavilion, on the field and in the town itself.

In 2011 the Eisteddfod will take place between 4 and 10 July. The deadline for applications from choirs and groups is 1 November 2010 and for soloists, 28 February 2011. Full details of the programme for 2011, and how to apply, can be found on our website at www.llangollen2010.co.uk. However, if this deadline causes you a problem, we would be happy to discuss this with you.

If you would like any further information regarding the festival please contact the Eisteddfod office on
