Summary:
“Role of youth work in dealing with the past” is a 7 day TC, organized in Macedonia, aiming to discuss about, raise awareness and develop competences to combat hate and calls for violence as issues resulting from the past in post-conflict areas.
Target group: Youth workers, Youth leaders, Youth Policy Makers, Be aged between 18 and 35.
For participants from: Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Greece, Italy, Macedonia, Former Yugoslav Republic of, Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia, Turkey, South-East Europe.
Group size: 25 participants
Details:
The project will offer space to discuss about the role of youth work in transmitting lessons learned in the targeted area, thus linking those with what it means to live in diversity and respect for human rights. The project will start up a dialogue about common historical issues, paths of remembrance and will create the base for participants to build a model for regional appreciation of diversity and overcoming the historical gaps. Europe is built on fundamental values such as freedom, democracy and respect for human rights. The participants will have a chance to be engaged in reflection on the origins of Council of Europe and history of European Integration which preserved peace among its members, and finally on today’s Europe, thereby moving beyond the past and building the future. This project therefore will play an important role in nourishing the broad reflection on the future of Europe and in promoting active European values.
Main aim
To develop competences of youth workers to deal with the past legacy of human rights violations as one of the greatest challenges facing societies in the aftermath of violent conflict.
The objectives of the project are:
• Develop understanding about the personal and national interpretation of the past, the effects and causes for hate and its consequences in ethnic conflicts;
• Equip youth workers, leaders and activists with tools and competences to act as multipliers and actively work on dealing with the past in their communities;
• Strengthen the cooperation in the youth field in fostering processes of recognizing and dealing with hate and encouraging action against hate motivated crime and hate speech;
• Contribute to achieving sustainable effect of ‘no hate speech campaign’ by mainstreaming positive practices in combating hate speech online.
Methodology:
The training will be delivered with principles of non formal education, taking interactive approach, encouraging participants to contribute their own experiences, expertise and ideas, bring along examples and good practices from their own countries and fields, and debate the use of possible interventions. The programme will also involve distance online learning through e- learning moodle platform, used for preparation and follow up of the training. Also during the training e-learning platform and other online media 2.0 will be a mechanism to communicate daily outcomes widely and receive feedback to be used in discussion in the training course.
Profile of the Participants:
• Youth workers or youth leaders active within their organizations;
• Be motivated to develop their competences in intercultural dialogue and remembrance;
• Already have experience in working with young people, organizing initiatives and projects;
• Be committed to attend for the full duration of the course and be supported by a youth organisation;
• Be aged between 18 and 35;
• Competently able to work in English language.
Costs:
70% of travel costs are reimbursed; Participation fee: 50€.
Working language: English.
