The European Patients’ Forum (EPF) is looking for a Research & Programme Intern to join the secretariat for 6-9 months starting April 2011.

EPF is the umbrella organisation of pan-European patient organisations active in the field of European public health and health advocacy. EPF was founded in 2003 to become the collective patients’ voice at EU level, manifesting the solidarity power and unity of the EU patients’ movement. EPF currently represent 44 patient organisations, which are chronic disease-specific patient organisations operating at EU level, and national coalitions of patient organisations. EPF’s vision is high quality, patient-centred, equitable healthcare for all patients throughout the European Union. EPF facilitates exchange of good practice and challenging of bad practice on patients’ rights, equitable access to treatment and care, and health-related quality of life between patient organisations at European and at Member State level.

Job Title: Intern

Duration: 6-9 months

Start date: April

Location: Brussels, Belgium

Reporting lines: Reporting to the Programme Manager

Purpose of the job: To support EPF’s policy and programme work in various specific areas with a main focus on research activities.

Key responsibilities:
- Carry out research in the context of the project InterQuality on financing systems’ effect on quality of healthcare;
- Carry out research in the context of the project Renewing Health on Telemedicine;
- Contribute to the development of EPF Youth Strategy;
- Contribute to the development of new project proposals;
- Update and maintain Directory of Patient Organisations;
- Update and maintain Value+ Database of projects;
- Provide support to EPF team according to needs;
- Update and maintain projects’ related information on website.


Profile

Essential
- Strong experience in methodology of quantitative and qualitative research preferably in the field of public health;
- Fluent in English;
- Solid computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet);
- Proactive, efficient and motivated person who is also flexible and a team-player;
- Strong analytical and organizational skills and practical approach to problem solving;
- Good communication, networking and writing skills;
- Degree in European affairs, politics or international relations;
- Excellent knowledge of EU policies, legislation, institutions and procedures.


Desirable
- Demonstrated working experience at EU level, preferably within an EU institution, Brussels-based NGO, company, consultancy or think tank would be an asset;
- Experience in project management.
