Kent is the only UK university with a campus in Brussels, ‘the capital of Europe’. The University offers degrees taught in English at its specialist postgraduate school, the Brussels School of International Studies (BSIS).
MA scholarships
Scholarships for our MA programmes are awarded twice per year; normally in June for students starting in September and in November for those starting in January.
Successful candidates will be registered at the University of Kent as full time students on the taught programmes stated above and will receive payment to cover 50% of their tuition fees (€7,735 in 2011/2012). These scholarships are open to students of all nationalities.
To submit an application for a masters programme, please follow the instructions as detailed on the following webpage: http://www.kent.ac.uk/brussels/BSIS/admissions/index.html. Applicants should normally have obtained, or be about to obtain, a relevant undergraduate degree at least at First Class level (UK), or GPA 3.5 (US) or equivalent.
Once candidates have been accepted onto a programme at UKB, they should then send a letter/email to [email protected] confirming their wish to be considered for a scholarship and explaining why they believe that they should be awarded one. Candidates should ensure that their application number is mentioned on their letter/email and indicate 'scholarships' in the subject title.
To help you decide what to write candidates should be aware that the Scholarships Board is looking for academic excellence as well as academic potential. If it helps, we invite candidates to imagine that they are standing in front of the members of the Scholarships Board and have one chance to tell them about themselves and why they would like to receive a scholarship.
The politics scholarships apply to the following programmes:
- MA in International Relations;
- MA in Conflict and Security;
- MA in International Development;
- MA in European Public Policy;
- MA in International Political Economy;
- MA in Political Strategy and Communication.
The law scholarship applies to the following programmes:
- LLM in International Law with International Relations;
- LLM in Public International Law;
- LLM in International Economic Law.
PhD Scholarships
Although we are not currently calling for doctoral scholarships, they are available to outstanding candidates.
Funding for doctoral research scholarships is available for one year in the first instance, extended to a maximum of three years for full-time students and five years for part-time students, based on satisfactory progress. Successful candidates will be registered as students of the University of Kent; registered initially for the MPhil they will be expected to transfer/upgrade to the PhD within 18 months of registration for full-time students and 3 years for part-time students.
Candidates will receive tuition fees (€15,473 in 2011/2012 for full-time students). All candidates will be subject to an annual review of progress and performance and will be expected to perform at a satisfactory level to ensure renewal of their award.
Successful applicants will pursue a thesis topic in an area of research strength of the school. We particularly welcome research proposals in European Public Policy, International Relations, International Conflict and Security, International Political Economy, International Development and Political Strategy and Communication. Applicants should normally have obtained, or be about to obtain a relevant Master’s degree at merit or distinction level. These scholarships are open to students of all nationalities.
