Work Experience

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area. International humanitarian experience, including leading public information efforts and advising senior United Nations officials in the field during major crisis, is required. Experience in designing, implementing and evaluating humanitarian communications strategies is required.


Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English (both written and verbal skills) is required. Knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of other official UN languages, is an advantage.


United Nations Considerations

The United Nations shall place no restrictions on the eligibility of men and women to participate in any capacity and under conditions of equality in its principal and subsidiary organs. (Charter of the United Nations - Chapter 3, article 8). The United Nations Secretariat is a non-smoking environment.


Assessment Method

A competence-based interview and/or other form of assessment will be used to evaluate applicants. Language skills may be tested as part of the assessment method.


Special Notice

Staff members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General and to assignment by him or her. In this context, all staff are expected to move periodically to new functions in their careers In accordance with established rules and procedures.
