Who are we (not) looking for?

The person (or team or institute) to do this review, should:
• have experience in analysing research findings and project reports, summarising and drawing conclusions based on the findings – and writing them down in accessible language (in English);
• have knowledge (and experience) of non-formal learning & the youth sector and social interventions in (sub)urban areas – in different European countries (or able to find it);
• have access to information sources and networks that can provide (international) data and information in the field of social challenges for young people in urban areas – and practical interventions trying to overcome obstacles or improve young people’s opportunities in challenging situations.

We are not necessarily looking for a ‘researcher’, but rather someone who knows the field, has experiences in this domain and access to relevant information. And who has some quality time to dedicate to this research and review process. Organisations are also invited to apply (but need to specify who concretely will be working on this job).

The procedure & conditions

At the moment we are scouting around via our networks for people who could fit the profile, who are interested and available. This could be YOU? Or you maybe know someone perfect for the job. Do let Tony Geudens [email protected] know asap (Skype: tony_geudens).

• Indicate why you (or your suggested person) fit the profile?
• What would be your price for the tasks outlined above?

SALTO Inclusion will start negotiations in December/January and as soon as terms and conditions are agreed (contract signed) the consultant can start the work in close cooperation with SALTO. This will include (at least) one work meeting with SALTO Inclusion and the active participation in the Birmingham reflection seminar (travel and subsistence paid by SALTO/Jint vzw).

The final research publication (point 4 above) should be ready by 15 September 2012.

A bit of background

SALTO Inclusion (www.salto-youth.net/inclusion/) is one of 8 resource centres for the European Commission’s Youth in Action programme. It supports the ‘inclusion’ of young people with fewer opportunities (disadvantaged youth) in international mobility projects, but also in society at large. SALTO Inclusion has chosen to work on urban youth over the coming years.

• Therefore SALTO Inclusion wants to hire someone to review what data exists and what kind of research and projects have taken place already in the field of challenges for urban youth – to deduce principles from these findings to inspire SALTO’s work in this area.
