The Commission launches a special website for children and young people: 'Kids' Corner'

We hear a lot about Europe in the media nowadays. But it is not always easy to understand why, and how, certain decisions are taken in Europe. That they have an influence on our daily lives, however, is clear. Knowledge and learning about the EU is not only something for adults. It is also important that young people learn about the EU at an early stage, in order to understand what it is and how it works.

The Commission has therefore launched a website for children about the EU: Kids' Corner. Children all over Europe and beyond now have online access to games, quizzes and information about the EU and the different countries that belong to it. With this new website the EU is, for the first time, offering children information about the EU and their own rights, specifically geared towards them in a style they understand.

Kids' Corner is made up of three elements:

• Firstly, there is a 'games and quizzes' section where children between 6 and 16 years of age can play fun and educational games created both by the Commission and other institutions.
• Secondly, a section entitled 'The EU: what's it all about?' which features a clickable map of Europe and fun facts about the EU and each EU country.
• Thirdly, a section called 'Check out your rights' with games, videos and information on the rights of the child for two age groups.

On all of these websites, children can play in their own language – and, in fact, in any of the 22 EU languages.

Kids' Corner also links up, and integrates, the existing website 'Teachers' Corner' which contains material that teachers can use to explain why the EU exists and how it functions. It contains a selection of the best teaching material, both for primary and secondary school pupils, put together with the help of educational experts from across the Member States.
