Head Translator (English/French), Darmstadt, Germany (Four-year fixed term contract with the possibility of renewal) EUMETSAT is the European satellite agency for monitoring weather and climate.
Bringing together the resources of 26 member states, we develop and operate a range of satellite systems surveying the atmosphere, land and ocean that deliver vital data 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Our data contribute to weather forecasts that protect lives and property across Europe. EUMETSAT is now embarking on new and challenging satellite development programmes, shaping its long-term future.
Period: 3 to 5 years.

Tasks: Playing a central part within our Communication and Information Services Division, you will oversee the translation of documents, reports, press releases and publications between English and French (and occasionally German). This will involve taking a hands-on approach whilst co-ordinating a second Translator and managing external German-speaking resources, so every day will bring different challenges. At all times, we will look to you to ensure a steady workflow, whilst assisting with planning, monitoring and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and skills:
- degree level in languages or translation, your French should be at the level of a native speaker combined with an impeccable command of English;
- A high standard of German would also be useful, but more importantly you will be an experienced translator and editor with strong awareness of scientific, technical and legal terms.
