ICRC – Come diventare Delegato della Croce Rossa Internazionale


Si tratta della figura professionale più importante della luna rossa internazionale, quella del Delegato. Ce ne sono centinaia sparsi per il mondo anche nei contensti più difficili. ICRC seleziona continuativamente nuovi candidati per ricoprire la posizione di Delegato che può essere anche specifica su queste tematiche (detenzione, sicurezza alimentare, cooperazione). Di seguito le caratteristiche principali richieste ai Delegati internazionali e le modalità per accedere alla selezione.

Profession: delegate

Your task
The delegate has several functions: visiting persons deprived of their liberty, restoring family links, developing activities in favours of the missing and their families, promoting the respect of the international humanitarian law, organizing assistance operations. As a representative of the ICRC, he/she also maintains contact and negotiates with authorites and armed actors in order to carry out his/her work as effectively as possible..

Selection requirements
• ideal age: 25 to 35;
• prepared to accept unaccompanied postings for the first two missions (minimum 12 months each);
• excellent command of English, good knowledge of French, Spanish and Russian an asset;
• Arabic speakers: please refer to the special vacancy announcement;
• university degree or equivalent;
• minimum two years of professional experience a must;
• driving licence (for manual transmission vehicles);
• fully conversant with IT tools;
• previous humanitarian field experience is an advantage;
• previous experience in the detention work is an asset.

Profession: economic security delegate (food security and livelihoods)

Main Objective
The ICRC defines Economic Security as the status of an individual, household or community that is able to cover its life and livelihoods obligatory expenditures in a sustainable manner, consistent with its environment, culture and customs. As such, economic security includes food security and encompasses a livelihoods approach. The Economic Security Delegate is responsible for planning and implementing Economic Security programmes in compliance with ICRC guidelines and standards.

Responsibilities
• Develop a comprehensive overview and understanding of the livelihoods, economy, culture, customs, social structure and politics of a context;
• Instigate and participate in assessments of the population economic security situation, when appropriate jointly with other ICRC departments such as Protection, Health, and Water and Habitat
Contribute to the identification of beneficiaries, selection of appropriate interventions, and formulation of projects proposal;
• Implement, monitor and evaluate activities according to objectives and plans of actions;
• Promote the principles of the Red Cross and of international humanitarian law;
• As a representative of the ICRC, maintain contact and negotiate with government authorities – civilian and military – in order to carry out the work as effectively as possible.

Selection requirements
• Ideal age: 25 to 35 years;
• Prepared to accept unaccompanied postings during the first 24 months of collaboration;
• University degree in the fields of economics, geography, agronomy, veterinary, nutrition, rural development, public health or anthropology or strong equivalent experience in the humanitarian field
Minimum of 3 years professional experience in humanitarian matters, including field missions abroad in dangerous environments;
• Excellent command of French and English – Arabic, Spanish, Russian an asset;
• Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software;
• Driving license (must cover manual transmission – a license for automatic-transmission vehicles only is not sufficient).
