The recently published eLearning Papers 33 focuses on the challenges and future of Massive Open Online Courses. Three of contributors to this special issue share their thoughts and experiences in a series of interviews available as podcasts. Yishay Mor, Senior Lecturer in Educational Technology at the UK's Open University and guest editor of the issue, asks whether MOOCs are really "as adequate to open up the educational scene as they seem to promise", while his colleague Patrick McAndrew, also a professor at the OU, says that massive courses "are only a part of what's happening" in Open Education." On the other hand, Pierre Dillenbourg, Professor of Computer Science at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, believes that "there is much more into the MOOCs than what we see."

Two renowned UNESCO Chair holders in Open Educational Resources (OER), Fred Mulder (Open Universiteit in the Netherlands) and Rory McGreal (Athabasca University, Canada), delivered keynote speeches at the recent LINQ2013 conference held in Rome. • Going to the EDEN 2013 conference in Oslo? Have a look at the detailed programme

The detailed programme of the EDEN 2013 Annual Conference, with the schedule of plenary and parallel sessions, is now available at the event's website. This year, the conference of the European Distance and E-Learning Network (EDEN) will be held in Oslo (Norway), between the 12th and 15th of June under the title "The Joy of Learning". Near 100 papers, 50 posters, 17 workshops and 9 demonstrations will highlight the state of art in ICT supported learning in Europe and beyond. More information here.

• GUIDE Conference 2013 - Call for papers deadline extended

Educators, policy makers and experts willing to participate in the VI International GUIDE Conference 2013 as speakers still have the chance to submit their papers until June 26, The conference, to be held in Athens (Greece) on October 3-4, will try to answer the question "Can online education contribute to overcome the crisis?" and provide a comparative analysis of the effects of governmental policies on new training and research strategies in response to the economic crisis.
