Call for Trainers: Value the Difference Resource Pack

Description

The publication


SALTO Cultural Diversity intends to create a resource pack for youth workers across Europe based on the individual themes of its long running network course, 'Value the Difference'.

The Resource Pack will contain 9 chapters (reflecting the different topics of the Value the Difference training course) which are split up into 2 different sections; one giving up to date information, data and case studies on the relevant topics, with the second providing practical examples of how to engage young people with these topics.

Content for the different sections is expected to include:

Section 1 - will include but is not limited to an introduction to relevant key themes / theories, case studies, questions, quotes and links to further resources etc.

Section 2 - activity ideas on how to engage young people with these themes: Session outlines / instructions, intended outcomes, debriefing questions, list of materials etc.

The end product is a publication available in printed format and as a free download from the SALTO Cultural Diversity publications page.


Rationale

This project will support the SALTO Cultural Diversity's main aim to provide cultural diversity related tools, publications and resources which not only reach the expressed needs of the target group, but further impact on a wider audience in a practical way.

The publication will be based on the individual themes of the 'Value the Difference', draw from the materials collected by SALTO Cultural Diversity since 2008, and be consistent with the overall aims and objectives of the training courses.

This publication will allow youth workers and those working with young people to increase their knowledge and understanding around key cultural diversity related topics, and give practical examples of how they can engage the young people they work with around these topics.

The publication will address key issues without advocating any particular political or ideological viewpoints.


Requested trainer profile

The author should have:
• Ability to independently research and collate material from a wide variety of sources;
• Knowledge of different topics relating to Cultural Diversity, including but not limited to the previous topics of the Value the Difference training course;
• Experience in writing educational material in English;
• Fluency in spoken English and excellent command of written English.


Working conditions

The task will be to research, collect data (including quotes, statistics, case studies etc.) from a variety of sources, and write section one of each of the 9 chapters in the publication. The author will also have editorial responsibility for section two of each chapter - information for which will be provided by previous trainers of and materials from Value the Difference, and / or the toolbox for trainers located on the main SALTO-YOUTH website.

The information, language used and style of writing in section one and section two of each chapter, should be relevant, accessible and appropriate for the target audience.

The full, final copy from the author to be completed by September 30th 2013 - will be subject to consultation and agreement with SALTO Cultural Diversity.
