Context/Scope:


Serengeti Breweries Ltd (SBL) operates exclusively in Tanzania and is the 2nd largest beer company with a market share of close to 30%. SBL is a subsidiary of East Africa Breweries Ltd (EABL) – which is partly owned by one of the world’s biggest alcoholic beverage companies, DIAGEO. The company is an integrated demand/supply business with 3 operational breweries in Dar Es Salaam, Mwanza, and Moshi. The company boasts famous locally brewed brands, such as Serengeti Premium Lager, Tusker Lager, Tusker Light, Kibo Gold, Pilsner Lager, Senator just to name a few. The spirits folder is filled with world-class brands from abroad – including Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker, Baileys, J&B and Gordon’s.

Key Purpose of the role

Oversee the following functions in the Finance department:

• Record To Report – deliver monthly general ledger reporting to a high standard that enables quality business insight generation and deliver in full the statutory reporting processes for interim and full year periods, including statutory accounts and FAC reporting.

• OTC: Monitor accuracy of market sales order capture and track process performance of ABSC through regular review of customer accounts for cash and empties debt; co-ordinate and manage in market Credit Committee activities under the chair of FD and MD to mitigate credit risk and monitor overdue debts;

• PTP: Monitor key performance metrics on PTT, Parked & Blocked, Retro Purchase Orders and ageing of supplier payables.

• RTR: Identify areas of non-compliance to global COA requirements and deliver process, training or communication interventions where necessary;

• T&E: Ensure local compliance to T&E policy in claims and submissions, and monitor ageing of staff cash advances and in concert with HR department, enforce necessary actions for recovery

• Tax & Treasury – support Group Tax & Treasury department with the enactment of local statutory and reporting requirements (cash transfers, tax and duty submissions and payments).

Key Accountabilities

Financial Management

• Ensure all monthly and annual accounting/finance and control processes requirements for business and centre are met, in conjunction with the African Shared Business Centre;
• Ensure statutory & management reporting requirements are met;
• Enhance planning and forecasting of tax and treasury commitments, opportunities, risks and exposures.

Process Compliance
• Ensure all global KPIs across OTC, PTP, RTR and T&E are met; including levels of overdue debt, average cash collection days, payment to terms, retrospective invoices, COA compliance and T&E policy adherence;
• Satisfactory CARM and GAR audit results across these areas.

People Performance
• Coach and develop own team plus others across organisation;
• Align/upgrade team capabilities to business agenda & build cross functional team working skills;
• Search & spin on issues across networked environment for best results;
• Build relationships externally & internally.

Qualifications and Experience
• A Bachelors degree in a relevant field;
• At least 5 years experience with a Strong track record in People Management & / or commercial roles within a consumer goods environment;
• A strong track record in Sales at a management level ideally with experience in at least two areas of Sales. Particularly critical is previous experience in a customer-facing role whether in Field Sales or Account Management.
