OECD, Better Policies for Better Lives, looking for Translators - French translation section (Job Number: 08930).
Description
The OECD’s mission – Better Policies for Better Lives – promotes policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world. It provides a unique forum in which governments work together to share experiences on what drives economic, social and environmental change, seeking solutions to common problems.
The Translation Division (TRA) within the Conference Security and Language Services (CSL) of the Executive Directorate (EXD), provides translations into official (French and English) and non-official languages for OECD official documents and publications and other language-related activities, such as terminology.
CSL/TRA is looking for dynamic professionals to produce translations into French of various types of texts in specific fields related to the OECD activities, and participate in terminological activities. The selected candidates will report to the Head of the Division.
Main Responsibilities:
Translation:
• Produce and meet deadlines for translations from English into French of texts of all kinds (documents, publications, speeches, press releases, OECD website pages, correspondence, etc.) pertaining to economics and/or different areas of expertise (agriculture and fisheries, development, education, taxation, digital economy, economic policy, etc.).
• Translate urgent texts on subjects outside of his/her areas of expertise.
• Revise the work of freelance translators in his/her own specialist areas of expertise to ensure that quality translations are delivered and which meet OECD standards and clients requirements and deadlines.
Terminology:
• Regularly monitor new developments in his/her specialist area of expertise and share the information and knowledge acquired through this watching brief with the other translators and officials in the division.
• Actively and methodically participate in the enrichment of the OECD terminology portal in his/her specialist areas of expertise, collaborating with OECD experts working in these areas.
Candidate’s profile:
Academic Background:
• Advanced professional translation qualification from a leading institute or school of translation or equivalent.
Professional Background:
• A minimum of three years’ relevant experience producing translation from English into French, preferably gained in an international organisation.
• Proven experience in the translation of texts and participation in projects requiring the translation of texts dealing with economics.
• Proven experience in the translation of texts in specialist subject areas (agriculture and fisheries, development, education, taxation, digital economy, economic policy, etc.) would constitute a significant advantage.
Tools:
• Excellent knowledge and regular use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Familiarity with terminology work and tools, including web tools.
• A working knowledge of computer-aided translation tools would be an advantage.
Languages:
• Native French and perfect knowledge of French culture.
• Excellent knowledge of and professional capacity to translate from English.
• Knowledge and translation competence in another language relevant to the Organisation’s work would be a distinct advantage.

Contract Duration
2 year fixed term, with the possibility of renewal.
What the OECD offers
Monthly base salary starting from 5,400 EUR exempt of French income tax, plus allowances based on eligibility.
Please note, the appointment may be made at a lower grade based on the qualifications and professional experience of the selected applicant.
