• COHESION POLICY PACKAGE ADOPTED


Johannes Hahn and László Andor, European Commissioners for Regional Policy and for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion respectively, have warmly welcomed the European Parliament's vote today to endorse reform of Cohesion Policy.

• Refocusing EU Cohesion Policy for Maximum Impact on Growth and Jobs: The Reform in 10 points

Under the EU's 2014-2020 budget, Cohesion Policy will invest €325 billion in Europe's Member States, their regions and cities to deliver the EU-wide goals of growth and jobs, as well as tackling climate change, energy dependence and social exclusion. Taking into account the national contribution of member states, and the leverage effect of financial instruments, the overall impact is likely to be more than €500 billion. The reform of Cohesion Policy will ensure maximum impact for these investments, adapted to the individual needs of regions and cities.

• The EU's budget framework 2014-2020 - One million euro to invest in Europe's future

Yesterday the European Parliament voted in favour of the EU's Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for the years 2014 to 2020. The consent of the EP clears the way for the final approval by the Council in the coming weeks. Two and a half years of intense negotiations, since the Commission had tabled its proposals on 29 June 2011, have come to an end.
