Beyond 2015 – International Officer – Brussels

The campaign is built on a diverse, global base. It ranges from small community based organisations to international NGOs, academics and trade unions. A founding principle of the campaign is that it is partnership between civil society organisations from the ‘North’ and the ‘South’ – bringing together groups from developing, emerging and developed economies.

Whilst participating organisations have a range of views regarding the content of a post-2015 framework, Beyond 2015 unites in campaigning for the following outcome:
a) A global overarching cross-thematic framework succeeds the Millennium Development Goals, reflecting Beyond 2015’s policy positions.
b) The process of developing this framework is participatory, inclusive and responsive to voices of those directly affected by poverty and injustice.

Beyond 2015 is seeking an International Officer to support the work of the Beyond 2015 campaign, specifically in terms of communication, translation, website and the ‘‘Supportive States’ initiative’.

Scope of job
• To be responsible for the translation of all relevant documents into French and Spanish (this may include direct translation, or the recruitment and management of volunteer translators).
• To be responsible for the development and maintenance of the Beyond 2015 website, in three languages. This may include direct maintenance of the site, or management of volunteer web support
• To support the International Coordinator in communication with the whole campaign. This includes translations of communications, preparation of documents and management of the various lists google groups of Beyond 2015.
• To support the International Coordinator in other tasks deemed necessary (including, but not limited to, representing the campaign internationally).
• Coordinate the ‘Supportive states’ initiative.
• Coordinate the ‘Lead with the Leaders’ webinar series

2.1 Translations 20%
• To translate key documents into French and Spanish in a timely manner.
• To coordinate the translation of key documents in a timely manner by recruiting and managing volunteer translators (through UN Volunteers).

2.2 Website maintenance 20%
• To ensure the smooth functioning of the Beyond 2015 website by managing relationships with the host, Herd.
• To ensure all the latest and relevant information pertaining to the post-2015 process is available on the website, in a coherent and accessible manner, in English, French and Spanish.
• To recruit and manage a website volunteer to assist with these duties.
• To ensure that the relevant sections of the website are free from spam.

2.3 ‘Lead with the Beyond 2015 Leaders’ webinar series 10%
• Organise monthly webinars where participating organisations discuss key issues with leaders of the Beyond 2015 campaign from throughout the world (always a partnership between a leader from the South and a leader from the North).
• Keep records of participation in the webinars, with a specific focus on the geographical spread.

2.4 Supportive states coordination 40%
• Working with the International Coordinator, ensure that prioritised ‘Supportive States’ agree to work
with the campaign and establish plans for sustained and meaningful engagement with each of these states.
• Ensure that lead agencies at the national level, and the Beyond 2015 UN Working Group, are engaging effectively with the supportive states.
• Ensure that the supportive states are receiving the appropriate messages from the campaign at the right time.

2.5 General 10%
• Supporting the International Coordinator.
• Representing the campaign internationally when required.
• Other duties as deemed necessary.
• Participate in organising Beyond 2015 events, notably on speakers, content and agenda, as required.

Successful candidates for this post will respond as much as possible to the following profile:

Knowledge
1. Good understanding of collective and coordinated campaigning and advocacy.
2. Good knowledge of current political debates and dynamics around a potential post-2015 development
framework and /or global development generally.
3. Good knowledge of web-based and e-mail communication options.
