Job Purpose

The Director Category Development serves as key Category Management/Shopper Insights leader and resource for US Grocery and Channel Sales, Consumer Marketing and Retail Field Sales in the areas of go-to-market Category Management strategy, data analysis, reporting and delivery. This individual is also the primary leader of sales communications and deliverer of the Marketing Plan to the Field Sales Organization. The incumbent will lead the Center of Excellence for Category Management in the Americas Region.


Key Accountabilities

• Develop and execute the Category Management Strategy and Plan for all Barilla categories.
• Provide thought leadership on Category Trends, retail environment and growth initiatives and incorporate these into Joint Business Plans/Top 2 Top discussions/customer plans with focus on Space allocation, shelving, pricing, assortment and merchandising.
• Recommend and manage the Category Management budget reflecting customer, syndicated and custom research components.
• Support annual customer planning and set the Category Management Priorities; measure and report results.
• Direct and develop Category Development Managers.
• Align all Category Management activities to support and execute the annual Sales Plan.
• Provide company thought leadership and priorities to the extended Customer Category Management teams including Walmart, Target, Safeway and the Broker-Advantage Sales and Marketing, and Barilla Sales teams.
• Maximize the use of resources such as Nielsen on-site team, ASM Category Management teams, research projects in support of the Sales Organization and ensure linkage with the Category Management Plan.
• Manage cross-functional Shopper Insights Team in research design and information mining from syndicated, customer and custom research.
• Deliver marketing materials including a customer-facing category or Barilla selling story, the Marketing Plan, Sell- Sheets and new initiative/innovation selling stories to the Sales Organization, working closely with the Brand Teams to ensure execution of the annual Marketing Plans.
• Prepare and distribute analyses and sales presentations to help drive Barilla and Category results at major retail customers.
• Serve as primary contact for initiatives that require HQ Sales. Field Sales and Business Team coordination to address retail customer issues and opportunities.
• Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in a business discipline; MBA preferred.
• 8 years of Category Management experience (Sales, Sales Planning a plus) in the Consumer Packaged Goods Industry, with knowledge of Grocery/Mass/Club Channels and key customers.
• Demonstrated use of syndicated and consumer data (Nielsen/IRI) in the retail Consumer Packaged Goods environment.
• Proven Category Management success story.
• Successful Project Management experience.
• Minimum 3 years of People Management experience (direct and/or indirect).
• Experience using internal sales data to analyze shipment results.
• Excellent computer skills especially Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong presentation and communication skills.
• Experience working with cross functional teams – HQ Sales, Marketing and Field.
• Ability to travel up to 25% domestically as well as potentially internationally.
