RegioFlash: Commission's 6th Cohesion Report sees energy and SMEs as the target of investments

• 6th 'Cohesion Report' confirms Energy efficiency, job creation and SME support as the main target of investments

The European Commission's 6th Report on Economic, Social and Territorial Cohesion shows that EU Cohesion Policy is delivering on the growth goals of the Europe 2020 Strategy by creating jobs and reducing disparities across Europe. Looking ahead to 2014-2020, the report outlines how investments will be focused on key areas like energy efficiency, employment, social inclusion and SMEs to get the most of the investments to the benefit of citizens.

The 6th Cohesion Report will be available in German and French by the end of August. All other languages will follow as of September.

• Cohesion Policy open data platform launched today
The platform provides information about the results achieved in each Member State, based on the reports submitted to the Commission by national authorities. It shows how the funding is distributed between countries, categories of regions, the different funds and the breakdown by thematic objective. The platform includes a series of interactive maps with data on the socio-economic context and the specific challenges faced by European regions, based on the figures from the Commission's Sixth Report on Economic, Social and Territorial Cohesion.

• "Europe in my Region" Photo Competition
Your chance to win photo equipment for €1,000 and a trip to Brussels: only 4 weeks left to participate in the "Europe in My Region" Photo Competition
.

The competition, aimed at depicting projects around Europe receiving EU regional funding, was launched in June. Entries will be accepted until Monday 25 August 2014 (at noon).

To enter the competition, participants need to take a photo of a project receiving EU funding, with the plaque or billboard with funding information and the EU flag somewhere in the picture.

The 100 pictures with the highest amount of votes, plus up to 50 "wildcard" entries (that were not included in the 1st group with the highest votes), are put forward to a jury of 3 photography professionals who will select 3 winners. The winners will receive their prizes - a trip to Brussels and €1 000 to spend on digital camera equipment - during OPEN DAYS 2014 in October.
