FULL-TIME JOB VACANCY (administrative – not legal – position)
EU Advocacy Division (Brussels Office)

Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking highly-qualified applicants for the position of Associate with the EU Advocacy team. This position reports to the Director of EU Advocacy.

Responsibilities:
• Providing administrative and clerical assistance to the EU Advocacy division;
• Assisting with research on various aspects of EU and member states’ policies;
• Setting up meetings and assisting with the organization and coordination of logistics for special events;
• Preparing, formatting and distributing documents such as press releases, reports, briefing papers, and op-eds; conducting background advocacy research and drafting related documents such as advocacy letters and memoranda; editing correspondence and other documents;
• Preparing for and taking minutes at meetings; representing HRW in advocacy meetings with the EU institutions;
• Making travel arrangements and recording departmental finances;
• Updating the EU advocacy calendar, contact lists and databases and retrieving and responding to requests for information;
• Maintaining extensive files, filing and archiving systems;
• Assisting with the recruitment and coordination of interns;
• Word processing; photocopying; filing; faxing; answering phones; processing incoming mail; and
• Carrying out other duties as required.

Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
Experience: Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience.

Related Skills and Knowledge:
• Prior office/administration experience and strong organizational skills;
• The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, must be able to take initiative and be extremely detail-oriented;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required; fluency in other European languages is a plus;
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences;
• Strong interest in international human rights as well as knowledge of the European Union institutions is highly desirable;
• Previous work, internship, or volunteer experience with the European Union and/or in human rights is preferred;
• Ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously;
• Ability to prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as function as a member of a team;
• Proficiency in computer packages including MS Office applications.

Other: Applicants for this position must possess current EU work authorization valid for a minimum of two years from start date.

Salary and Benefits: Salary range starts at EUR 30,000. Human Rights Watch offers comprehensive employer-paid benefits, including private medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, a retirement savings plan after two years of employment and twenty-five (25) days vacation per year.
