• ECF welcomes new Commission President J-C. Junker.
On 15th July, Jean-Claude Junker, EPP candidate, was elected Commission President by the European Parliament, following the presentation of his program for a “A New start for Europe: My Agenda for Jobs, Growth, Fairness and Democratic Change”. This time is different, we might say, the EU Commission President benefits from real legitimacy, since “for the first time, a direct link (was) established between the outcome of the European Parliament elections and the proposal of the President of the Commission”. • On 27th March 2014, the European Commission launched an online consultation seeking for stakeholders’ opinion on investment protection and investor-to-state dispute settlement (ISDS) within the currently negotiated transatlantic trade agreement between the EU and USA. Due to the high number of answers, request from civil society and taking into account the system’s breakdown on 3rd July, the consultation was extended to 13th July.
