Stakeholder Conference on the EU Strategy for the Alpine Region

Building on the experience gained in the macro-regional strategies for the Baltic Sea Region, the Danube Region and the Adriatic and Ionian Region, and following a request from the European Council, the European Commission and the participating countries and regions are now proceeding to draw up an EU Strategy for the Alpine Region (EUSALP). A very decisive moment in this process is the Stakeholder Conference of the EUSALP that will take place in Milan, Italy on 1-2 December 2014. The event will mark the conclusion of the extensive stakeholder consultation on the EUSALP held from 15 July until 15 October 2014.

The Conference will promote a debate with the participants on the future challenges that can be tackled following a macro-regional approach. This will support the preparation of the future Communication and Action Plan of the Strategy, which the Commission is due to present in June 2015. The conference will also contribute to raising awareness in the wider public of preparations for the Strategy.

Organisers

The event, co-organized by the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the European Commission and the Lombardy Region, will take place in Palazzo Lombardia in Milan. The Foreign Ministers of the Countries involved and the Presidents of the Regions of the Alpine area will be invited. The conference is a unique opportunity to exchange views on the scenarios of the macro-region and to outline the main elements of the future governance architecture of the Strategy. The programme will include plenary sessions and workshops devoted to the three pillars of the Strategy.

An effective and forward-looking EU Strategy for the Alpine Region will bring new impetus for cooperation to the benefit of all involved, unlocking the potential of the Alpine Region and contributing to a harmonious and sustainable development in the area.
