General context of the mission

INTERSOS has been present in Afghanistan since October 200, with its main office in Kabul and sub-offices in Jalalabad, Maimana, Kandahar and Lashkar Gah.

Considering the lessons learned while working with IDPs, INTERSOS has reduced its presence in camps of Southern Afghanistan and refugee camps in Pakistan – handing-over management responsibilities at the appropriate time to governmental counterparts – while concentrating its presence in Faryab and Herat Provinces.
Currently, INTERSOS is present with three offices in Herat, Kabul and Maimana (Faryab province).
Sectors of intervention in the last years were emergency relief, shelters and NFIs, WASH, DRR, Protection (in particular Child Protection).
Priorities for INTERSOS in Afghanistan for 2015 are delivering assistance to the local population (including IDPs) affected by the conflict and natural disasters, continuing to support a sustainable reintegration of returning IDPs and refugees and exploring intervention in areas with increasing humanitarian needs.
