Working context

WeWorld is been working in Kenya since 2010 with a main office in Nairobi and a sub-office in Kisii (Nyanza Province). The action of the Foundation is focused on assuring the right of children to a quality primary and pre-primary education though an holistic approach mainstreaming health and nutrition issues. Direct intervention as well as advocacy activities are implemented. The main area of intervention are Nyanza Province (Nyamira, Migori and Homa Bay County) and Rift Valley Province (Narok County).

Scope of the job
• He/she will be in charge of the start-up and management of the EC co-funded project run by WeWorld (lead applicant). The action aims at empowering Migori County to address maternal and child malnutrition, through the facilitation of local political commitment and awareness raising, in the framework of an integrated behaviour change program on Nutrition (Education/Health/Food Security).
• He/she will report to the WeWorld Country Representative for the general management of the project and to the Country Finance and Administration Manager for all the financial and administrative-related issues.

Main responsabilities
1. Management of the Project Human resources

• Organization of the human resource selection;
• Management and operational responsibility of the staff;
• Management and facilitation of the handover in case of staff turnover;
• Assessment of security measures implementation by the staff.

2. Management of project activity implementation
• Definition of the activities operational plan and chronogram, within agreed budget and other project documents;
• Coordination of the activities implementation, according to the operational plan;
• Planning of goods & services purchase and carrying out of expenditures in compliance with both EC and WeWorld procedures;
• Supervision of logistics, including the management of project asset inventory;
• Organization of the asset handover after closing the project;
• Identification of possible budget and operational plan adjustments, and arrangement of the documentation required by the donor for approval;
• Management of the operational and institutional relations with project partnering organizations and stakeholders as well as with the donor and relevant authorities.

3. Monitoring of project activities and expenditures
• Definition of the monitoring plan and specific tools to assess the progress of the project;
• Monitoring of activities implementation and of results/objectives achievement through field visits, meetings with partners and stakeholders, data collection and analysis;
• Filling in of financial tools, checking and integrating of the same, periodic analysis of the expenditures and re-planning.

4. Interim and final reporting
• Setting up and monitoring of periodic (monthly) internal reporting to be filled in by partner and project staff;
• Drawing up of narrative and financial reports, interim and final (in collaboration with WeWorld local office and headquarters) to be sent to the donor in compliance with agreed procedures and time schedule.

Qualification and experience
• University Degree or Master in Social Sciences (e.g. Development Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, Human Rights) or Business & Administration or Engineering management);
• At least five (5) years of relevant overseas experience in management of projects funded by Institutional donors in International development projects;
• Previous experience in civil society capacity building, and large and complex projects’ monitoring and evaluation;
• Experience in development project in Kenya will be considered a plus when establishing the ranking;
• Proved experience in managing projects co-funded by European Commission;
• Proved experience in civil society capacity building and nutrition oriented project’s;
• Experience in human resource management (recruiting, training and development);
• Capable of working in team and supporting the partners in all phases of the Project Cycle Management;
• Willing to work in close cooperation with the partners, also through frequent and extended field visits;
• Italian Mother tongue, Proficiency in English, both spoken and written;
• MSOffice proficient user.
