Data: 06/06/2016

ICJA10 Spangenberg 30/07/2016-19/08/2016 -CONS, KIDS, MANU, FEST, CULT, ART

In Spangenberg, a small village south of Kassel, in the middle of Germany, there is the „Himmelsfels“ (Heavensrock), a rock with an area of 8 hectares attached to it. Placed on this area there are so called embassies of different countries - caravans that have been modified artistically by international guests of the Himmelsfels. Every year at Himmelsfels there are offered events concerning art, culture, gospel and youth encounter. This summer season there will be arranged several international youth camps for teenager and a special arts-project with the Nigerian artist Olayanju Dada. This project is called “the archive of dreams” and participants are invited to create an interactive intercultural library in an artistic way. At the moment building of the library is still under construction. The roof is made of a former radar dome and naked walls are waiting for the volunteers to be designed. The library is supposed to be the place where kids can write down their stories and their dreams. After some years it will be like an “Archive of Dreams”, full of testimonials of hundreds of peoples and ready to enjoy as interactive art exhibition. Beside this, volunteers will help us to enrich the current youth camps by supporting the activities run for the kids. The programs will take place on the “Himmelsfels” itself. The “Himmelsfels” foundation is a Christian organization which aims to developing spaces for intercultural and ecumenical exploration, as well as to motivating people for a life characterized by equality and common values. The project is especially directed to young people who support and are eager to join the community of Christian spirituality. For more information please see: http://www.himmelsfels.de/.

Workcamp participants are invited to work in different fields: Manual, artistically, pedagogical. There is manual work to be done by building the Archive of Dreams together with the artist. At the same time you can already design parts of the library. During the youth camps, you will have contact with kids from diverse background and join their activities as well. You are requested to be prepared as “ambassador” of the peoples living in your country. For this you will get a caravan, as home of your “embassy”. It would be helpful to be prepared to offer your own workshop artistically, musically or athletically at home and bring lots of ideas. In addition all volunteers will have the chance to introduce their country in an open evening. You should gather ideas at home and bring material for creating this evening. Further information will be prepared after the placement in the workcamp. Beside the announced activities help of the volunteers is also needed in the catering for all guests of the “Himmelsfels”. Study part: The study part of this workcamp will be dominated mostly by the question about life between past and future, tradition and modernity, small-town-life and global correlations. Working on the “Himmelsfels“, always encourage encounters between people from different cultures and diverse background.
