ICJA01 Eickedorferhof Grasberg 3.07.-16.07.16. TN 8 RENO, MANU, SOCI, ART, ENVI
The "living place” Eickedorferhof" is a small, biodynamic cultivated farm which is used primarily self – sufficient. At the same time it is a working and living project for young and old people and aims to be a place where handicapped and disadvantaged persons find an adequate place to live. Beside the family of the owner and some workers, there are about 5 adults with fewer opportunities currently working and living at the place. The main house is built in the style of a “Lower Saxon farmhouse”; beside this there are several neighboring houses and stands. Life stock of the farm consists of a herd of cows, three ponies, one horse, six cats, one goat and about 50-70 chickens. There are 2 vegetable greenhouses and a vegetable garden, as well as fruit trees and berry bushes.
Background of the little community is the philosophy of Anthroposophy. For the inhabitants, it is important that also cultural life at the place can be performed. In the last years, there have been organized some public cultural events like exhibitions, writing workshops, summer festivals with concerts, etc. Some artistic classes of different types of art for all residents and staff (like modeling with clay, painting, music) are part of regular activities on the site.
The farm is located near Bremen in the former "Teufelsmoor" (“devils peatland”) between the artists' villages Fischerhude and Worpswede. Even it is situated in the outskirts of Bremen, it is very quiet there. The landscape is seen as typical “North German Lowlands”.
Volunteers are invited to help in the interior work of the former barn, which is integrated in the main house. This means: preparing the floor (to remove old stones etc.) for a concrete foundation, building new walls, plastering other walls, painting them etc. In addition, there will be offered some smaller tasks in the farm, according to their interests, ability and needs: Helping with the vegetable garden, taking care of the farm animals, to cut the fence free from leaves. Of course, one team of the workcamp will help by cooking for the farm team. Please be prepared, that living and working together with people with fewer opportunities is background of every activity in the farm.
