• International cooperation for improving the capacity to deal with waste management in the Mediterranean
Waste management is one of the most important typical services delivered by local authorities. Local authorities in Libya and other Mediterranean countries face serious challenges to assure service delivery to the local population. This workshop on waste management in the Mediterranean (13 October 2016 , 11:15-13:00, at the European Committee of the regions) will highlight the role of the international cooperation in the Mediterranean in improving the capacity of the local authorities to deal with waste management. • Master Class of the European Week of Regions and Cities
For the fourth time, the European Week of Regions and Cities' University will be accompanied by a Master Class aiming at improving the understanding of EU Cohesion Policy and its research potential. Based on a call for paper proposals, 30 participants from 17 EU Member States and two non-EU countries will attend the Master Class between 9 and 13 October 2015 to discuss in particular three themes:
• Promoting inclusive growth and social cohesion, including the territorial dimension and the integration of urban and rural development;
• The significance of the network economy: policy learning; transfers between regions and cities; knowledge spill-overs;
• Improving the Cohesion policy delivery system: performance, simplification and accountability.

• A local event this week: Improving competitiveness through a circular economy
Organised on 29 September in Pamplona (Navarra, Spain) by the Government of Navarra and the Chamber of Commerce, the workshop will debate on how businesses can shift from being 'locked-in' to the linear economic model to the circular economy and which sectors are leading the way. Competitiveness, new business models and the future of the circular economy will be included and debated in the agenda of the workshop. More info...>>
