European Week of Regions and Cities: Info Flash 3 - 12 September 2016


• Cohesion as the main investment policy for EU's regions and cities

What are the synergies between financial instruments and grants? How can ESIF implementation be simplified? How to overcome the growing territorial disparities? And how to make cities better performing engines for growth and jobs? These are just some of the questions which will trigger animated debates between Members of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) and high-level panellists including Corina Cretu, European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Markku Markkula, President of the CoR and Ramón Luis Valcárcel Siso, Vice President of the European Parliament on 10 October. This opening session is already fully booked, but the event will be web streamed and can be followed via social media through the hashtag #EUWRC. • Joint REGI/COTER meeting: Achieving better performance in Cohesion Policy
In the light of the early debate on the future Cohesion policy, the European Parliament and the European Committee of the Regions will hold a joint meeting on 12 October (14:30-17:00) on how to achieve better performance. Raffaele Cattaneo, CoR COTER Chairman, and Iskra Mihaylova, Chairwoman of the EP REGI-Committee will open the discussion. This will be followed by two sessions, elaborating on how the current system of cohesion policy focuses on impact and results - with interventions by Petr Osvald, COTER Commission member, Lambert Van Nistelrooij, REGI Committee member, and Marc Lemaître, Director-General for Regional and Urban Policy, EC/DG REGIO, and on the key challenges for current and future cohesion policy - with interventions from Commissioner Corina Cretu, Constanze Krehl, REGI Committee member, Markku Makkula, President of the European Committee of the Regions and Michael Schneider, COTER Commission member. • Delivering EUSAIR : Time to Invest
Since the launch of the European Union Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region in November 2014 much has been done to set up the governance and the identification of the projects to be implemented in order to effectively deliver the Strategy in all its Pillars. The area has been indeed recognised as a crucial one to ensure growth and stabilisation for Europe. The conference ' Delivering EUSAIR : Time to Invest 'will explore how to attract investments in the Adriatic-Ionian Macroregion, within the framework of the four EUSAIR pillars. The debate will bring together political representatives at EU, national and regional level, including , members of the European Investment Bank and national governments. • EU Regions- Partners for Youth
What are the challenges faced by youth in their every-day life? How to overcome these? And what solutions can be proposed to successfully implement the Europe 2020 Strategy on this issue? The workshop "EU Regions- Partners for Youth" (12 October, 09:00-10:45, at the Committee of the Regions, Room JDE 62) will address these issues, building on the work of the partnership of the same name, initiated by Harghita County Council, in co-organisation with the Assembly of European Regions and in cooperation with several institutions and specialists. Speakers include Member of European Parliament Andrea Bocskor as well as four members of the European Committee of the Regions. The session will be followed by a networking event. Interested?
