Call for Trainers: “Embracing Diversity”- Training course on diversity management.

SALTO Inclusion and the Norwegian National Agency for the E+: Youth in Action programme is looking for 2 trainers: one from Norway & one international trainer.

Application deadline: 15th of November 2016

Description

Dates:
24 (arrival before dinner) – 28 (departure) April 2017, 3 working days

Venue: Oslo, Norway

Working language: English

Group size: Max 30 participants (from Erasmus+ programme countries)

Theme: 3 days training course on managing diversity.

Inclusion and diversity are two sides of the same coin, as written in the Inclusion & Diversity Strategy for Erasmus+: Youth in Action (www.salto-youth.net/inclusionStrategy/). One thing is to reach out to diverse target groups to take part in the Erasmus+ programme, but once they are in, we also need to equip them to deal positively with diversity of all kinds (different abilities, identities, social background, educational level, provenance...).

So far, SALTO Inclusion has focused a lot on ‘inclusion’ but we also need to work on the flipside of this coin and strengthen youth worker’s and young people’s competences in the field of 'diversity management’.

Will be exploring different concepts and elements of inclusion and diversity, discuss how to find common grounds and look beyond differences. This TC will have influence on youth workers’ daily practice, by offering them concrete tools, techniques and methods to manage diversity. Participants at the course also learn how to pass on these competences to the young people they work with.

General aim:
To train 30 youth workers in how to manage diversity in their daily work and in youth activities. The youth workers will be trained to help young people to make sense of increasingly diverse society and manoeuvre around in it successfully. They learn to cooperate smoothly despite differences of all kinds.

Objectives:
• To explore concepts and different forms of diversity and inclusion.
• To strengthen and develop youth workers 'diversity management’ skills.
• To learn from approaches and methods used in youth work, but also in other sectors (business or formal education) and see how those can be applied and adapted to the needs of the youth field.
• To gain knowledge on different tools, methods and techniques for managing diversity and interacting successfully despite differences. Tools to overcome differences and deal with potential misunderstandings.
• Translate these tools and methods to Erasmus+:Youth in Action projects. How can you benefit from these in international youth projects.

Profile of participants at the course:
• Youth workers, youth leaders and social workers who encounter diversity in their daily work and work with young people with fewer opportunities.
• From E+: YiA Programme countries.
• Interested in developing their ‘diversity management’ skills, learn to deal with diversity of all kinds (not only cultural).
• International experience is not a must.
• Able to work in (international) English.

Requested trainer profile
We are looking for 2 trainers (one from Norway & one international) to prepare and conduct the training course, together with the rest of the team.

We are looking for trainers with the following profile:

• Good English skills, being able to work in English.
• Experience with (residential) training courses, facilitation of seminars, group discussions, developing tools and handouts for specific target audiences (eg youth workers, specific minorities).
• Experience & knowledge of the topic: inclusion and diversity issues, dealing positively with diversity of all kinds, techniques and methods to manage diversity.
• Availability for the prep-meeting and training course itself.
