Context

Un ponte per… (UPP) is an NGO established in 1991. It has started its activities as “Un ponte per Baghdad”, right after the end of the war in Iraq, with the aim of organizing solidarity initiatives in favor of the Iraqi civil society. Later on, the intervention of Un ponte per… started including Serbia and other Middle Eastern and Mediterranean countries. The NGO mission is to prevent new conflicts, protect human rights and support civil society, especially in the Middle East, through awareness raising and advocacy campaigns, cultural exchanges, humanitarian and peacebuilding projects. UPP is active in Iraq since 1991 and is regularly registered at National and Kurdistan Region levels. Since 2012 UPP implements several programs to assist Syrian refugees. The project
The second phase of the Nineveh Paths to Peace program supports on the ground, community based interventions to produce practical impact on local and regional conflict dynamics, focusing on liberated areas. The project is embedded in ensuring authentic ownership and development of robust, resilient and effective peacebuilding capacities: directly in communities; in key civil society organizations; and in community-level and provincial authorities. Activities will start with the development of a strong community-based early warning and social cohesion analysis framework directly linked with community-based programming and intervention measures for mediation, prevention, reconciliation and improving social cohesion. The action will include community-based public awareness raising campaigns and programs to address and prevent youth recruitment and improve inter-community relations; direct interventions by community-based mediation structures (local peace committees) and institutional peace councils, community measures for transitional justice and women’s and youth peace teams. The extent of practical, on the ground intervention, mediation, prevention, peacebuilding and reconciliation measures in the program builds upon strong community partnership and relations with local civil society and local authorities developed in the first phase of the Nineveh Paths project.

Overall Objectives of the Project:
• To strengthen the capacity of local civil society organizations and community -leadership to implement effective mediation, dialogue and reconciliation processes to improve intercommunity relations and prevent violent incidents;
• To implement community level dialogue, mediation and reconciliation processes which have a measurable impact on improving community relations and strengthening capacities to handle conflicts and prevent incidents of violence.

Role and Responsibilities:
The Project Manager will be responsible to guarantee the correct operational and financial implementation of the project.

Essential requirements:
• Academic studies (preferably graduate level/masters degree) in fields related to international studies, conflict resolution and peace studies.
• Minimum of five years professional experience in project management.
• Excellent command of the project life cycle management with a special focus on administration and reporting actions.
• Proven capacities to plan activities successfully targeting results and objectives.
• Ability to supervise and/or mentor up to six junior staff.
• Knowledge or experience of the Middle East context, culture and politics.
• Previous work experience in Iraq and basic experience on social cohesion and peace building program are an asset.
• Excellent oral and written English. Arabic and Italian are an asset.
• Working experience with local counterparts (CSOs, local NGOs, and others).
• Experience of planning, organizing and prioritizing work, working under pressure and meeting deadlines.
• Excellent computer literacy skills.
• Able to work without prejudice or bias and with a good sense of humor.
• The ability to be self-motivated and an independent thinker, but also to work in a team.
