INTERN – Junior Program Officer – Education

Country: South Sudan

Duty Station: Isohe, Ikotos County, Eastern Equatoria State
Period: 3 months
Starting Date: 01/03/2017

Main objective:

The activities the intern is requested to carry out are focusing mainly on the schools of the following projects: Distant Support Program, MAE, World Food Program (WFP). Improving the overall living conditions and the personal growth of direct and indirect beneficiaries of the projects AVSI is carrying out in Ikotos County. Support the capacity building process AVSI has started for AVSI staff employed in the projects the organization is implementing.

Reporting to: AVSI South Sudan Country Representative.

Specific duties:
• Translate and control all documents from and to the DSP central office in Italy, and from the field office in South Sudan.
• Support the relationship with Distance Support Programme central office in Italy.
• Make field monitoring visits to field social workers, schools and families.
• Strategize weekly with education team on implementation of DSP activities.
• Work together with Education Coordinator to produce communications for the sponsors.
• Contribute to the creation of various tools to communicate AVSI’s role and activities in the education sector in South Sudan.
• Organize extra-curricula activities for pupils in order to value and enhance individual skills and personal growth (set up art and craft laboratories, organize sport competitions, organize debates on youth and adolescent problems, organize lessons, revision and homework completion sessions in the afternoon hours or during week-ends, etc.).

General duties:
• Support the implementation and monitoring of the AVSI projects activities in Ikotos County.
• Contribute to the daily supervision as well as capacity building of all AVSI staff.
• Assisting the daily management of the AVSI base in Isohe, especially in terms of logistics and administration.
• Support in the regular update of the AVSI website (news, galleries, etc).
• Ensure a monthly report is presented to the Supervisor and AVSI headquarters.
• Contribute in project proposals writing.
• Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Essential Requirement:
• Degree, preferably in Social Studies, Social Sciences, Public Health; Master in Humanitarian Studies or International Cooperation.
• Previous experience in humanitarian context it will be an asset.
• Experience in nutrition, food security and education area will be an added value.
• Computer skills / Microsoft Office.
• Excellent knowledge of English language.
• Knowledge of Italian Language.
• Ability to work in a team and independently.
