The Volunteers Centre of Vojvodina and Nature Conservation Movement (Pokret gorana i volonteerski centar Vojvodine ) is a non profit non governmental ecological organization. They are organising work camps during the summer and are looking for volunteers for teh following project:
Project: Sremski Karlovci is a town and municipality in the autonomous province of Vojvodina, Serbia, situated on the bank of the river Danube, 8 km from Novi Sad. Surrounded by beautiful natural landscape, this was the place of the first Serbian constitution, while under Austro-Hungarian rule, and t her efore it has a great historical importance. We wish to interact with the local population and give local youngsters a chance to do some work for the community while at the same time share experiences with international volunteers.
The project itself aims for the conservation of Sremski Karlovci’s ecological value while at the same time raise awareness amongst local population regarding environmental issues. Waste is not trash is the slogan for the project and we wish to enhance people’s creative skills by showing them how to create things from everyday ordinary objects that usually end up somew her e being hazardous for the environment.
Work: Volunteers will clean up the nearby woods and shores of the Danube river and participate in creative workshops were they will learn how to re-use the collected waste. 3 to 4 hours per day working and workshops at end of afternoon/night every 3 days, as well as activities in the local school / youth centre. T her e will also be local volunteers included in the project.
Free Time Activities: Afternoon and weekend activities will be arranged with the agreement of the volunteers. Excursions to Novi Sad (2nd city in Serbia ), Fruska Gora and boat rides along the Danube .
Accommodation: Volunteers will sleep in the Sremski Karlovci Ecological Center, an restaured old building re-designed to accommodate 60 beds hostel style. Meals are included, but volunteers may have to cook.
Language: English.
Location: Sremski Karlovci, a small village outside Novi Sad, 80 kms from Belgrade, with great historical value in Serbia and also surrounded by wonderfull ecological landscapes.
Terminal: Train / Bus Station in Novi Sad.
Special requirements: No special qualifications are required. People with ecological beliefs and creative skills are more than welcomed.
Special remarks: Bring sun protection and a swimming suit. You are also welcome to take with you some typical games, MUSIC!, and/or food from your country! T her e will be organized traditional evenings w her e you could present your home country.
