New Horizons Foundation is looking for 5 active people from the Youth in Action Program Countries short EVS stage in Romania (15th of June 2010 - 10th of September 2010). The volunteers will be involved in the activities of an adventure camp in the Carpathian Mountains for children, young people and for corporate staff. During the summer of 2010 (June - September) , the future EVS volunteers will be trained in outdoor education, and will be actively involved in all the camp's activities:
low and high altitude ropes course, hiking, rock climbing, games and debriefing process for the groups of young people that will attend our camp.
The EVS volunteers will spend 3 exciting months in the adventure camp, helping our specialized trainers in outdoor education to build confidence and outdoor skills for our beneficiaries (children and young people in schools, corporate staff).
We are looking for volunteers who are corresponding to this profile:
- Our project is open for any young volunteer candidates between the ages 18 and 30, from Program Countries, regardless of their origin and background, ethnic group, religion, sexual orientation or political ideas, who are willing to attend to the proposed activities and to the whole duration of the stage;
- motivated to continuously develop other young people, as well as
themselves in the field of non-formal education, through outdoor activities;
- willing to learn more and apply the principles of outdoor education and
service learning in the benefit of young people;
- having a strong interest (not necessarily experience) in the field of
experiential learning and working with youth (aged 10-18 years);
- be responsible for his/ her actions;
- motivated to develop good communication and social skills;
- good English skills are required.
The structure of the stage is:
- 2 introduction weeks in the area of our organization's activities: combining service learning and outdoor education, staff overview, technical input of outdoor education, experiencing the camp tools and elements beforehand.
- 9 weeks of attending the camp activities: facilitating a group of
10-15 youngsters throughout a week of activities in the camp (from Sunday morning to Friday afternoon), together with 3 other Romanian facilitators (camp staff)
- 1 final evaluation week
The lodging for the volunteers will be in a mountain cabana, near the camp, at the base of the Straja Mountain (the Straja mountain resort). The volunteers will receive guidance, mentoring and assistance according to the principles of the EVS Chart and to the specifications of the European Voluntary Service guidelines.
