European 1st Competition of the EnerCitites game: European Energy Party April 20th, 2010 (www.enercities.eu).

Taking into account that the "European Union Sustainable Energy Week 2010" is held between 22 and 26 March this year, the European Information Office of the Provincial Council of Granada and the Provincial Energy Agency of Granada make available to all Spanish and European educational institutions the EnerCities game.

On April the 20th of 2010 will be held at the Science Park of Granada a local competition and the first European virtual competition of the game EnerCities, which has been designed by a consortium of 8 European partners of the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Slovenia, Greece, Germany and Spain. This project was developed through a project funded by Intelligent Energy of the European Commission with a total budget of € 1,458,437.00.

The game is designed to introduce young Europeans in the world of energy in a simple and quick way. Thus, is intended to give youngsters around Europe an initial experience related to energy and its implications. The aim is to create and expand virtual cities taking into account pollution, energy shortages, renewable energy, etc. This way the game is supposed to motivate young people to find more information and get interested about the current problems associated with energy consumption, and the main solutions so as to secure a development model that is more energy sustainable than the current one.

The game platform, relates education materials to the game and energy topics. In this way it is intended that any educational institution who wants it, can join the project and compete with the institutes of the country (in local competitions), and Europe in the 4 European virtual competitions to be held.

Moreover, any citizen can access the game from the Facebook platform and compete from there for free with their friends and the rest of the user community of the game.
