St. Francis Foundation for Animals The St Francis Foundation for Animals has been set up to put into practice the teachings of St Francis of Assisi. The task of the foundation is twofold; To help abandoned animals, and to teach the ethic of compassion towards all creatures.
Europe for Citizens Project:
St. Francis Foundation for Animas will be applying for funds under the Europe for Citizens. Programme and is looking for 3 partners from one of the 27 member states including also Croatia to participate in the following project:
Aims and objectives of Project:
• To positively influence Maltese and European society into being more compassionate towards animals;
• To research and disseminate authentic awareness campaigns in favor of animal welfare;
• To oppose all forms of animal cruelty, and where possible, to provide alternatives;
• To encourage and promote lifestyles and products not tested on animals, animal-free sports, humane treatment of animals and environmentally-friendly products;
• To raise awareness on providing assistance to sick, injured and abandoned animals, including homing and veterinary care;
• To raise awareness on animal issues and share the information with the public through various media mediums;
• To campaign extensively, in partnership with other like societies, for animal rights and humane treatment of animals, and to end all forms of animal exploitation.
Project Duration – Starting from October 2011 up till September 2012
Interventions:
Animal Welfare Awareness Campaigns
1. Publications
Two publications will be developed to promote animal welfare awareness among children, youths as well as the general public. The underlying aim behind these publications will be to maximize on
the exposure of creating awareness on the provisions of duty of care towards animals and therefore outlining approaches to facilitate positive behavior towards animals in children and young people. The first publication will entail an illustrated animated story showcasing relationships and attitude towards animals, whilst the second publication will focus more on the promotion of different success stories emerging from the four different partner countries involving animal rescue. The publications will be translated into the partner countries language and will be uploaded online as well as printed and distributed in the various partner countries.
2. Website
A website will be created to include the online publications as well as a children’s corner whereby children from the different partner countries can post their drawings, animations as well as stories in relation to animal welfare. An online exchange between the children involved in Malta and the partner countries will be transposed via the website. The website will function to develop an awareness impact leading to improvements in animal welfare and enhanced health and wellbeing in young people.
