Those commitments which stood out

The European Road Safety Charter awards ceremony, the most important event of the European Road Safety Charter initiative, was held on the 1st of February 2011 in Brussels. The ceremony was a unique occasion for all types of stakeholders to exchange ideas and share knowledge on road safety related issues. In addition to the recognition of road safety excellence, some of Europe's largest multinationals signed their commitment to the European Road Safety Charter. The event hosted some very prestigious speakers such as Siim Kallas, Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of Transport, Enrico Grillo Pasquarelli, Director of Inland Transport, DG MOVE, European Commission, Isabelle Kardacz, Head of Road Safety Unit, DG MOVE, European Commission, Dr. Dinesh Sethi from the World Health Organization and Sarah Copsey from the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (OSHA).
This year, for the first time in the history of the Charter, three workshops were held simultaneously on different Road Safety topics. We would like to congratulate the winners and thank signatories, speakers and participants for a rewarding afternoon in Brussels.
The winners, the ones with the most innovative commitments, in each of the six categories were:

Large Multinational Enterprises: Tesco Dotcom, UK
Small Medium Enterprises: Busturas, Lithuania
Federations and associations: The Irish Medical Organization, Ireland
Institutions: Materska skola Denesova, Slovakia
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs): ANBO, Netherlands
Regions and Cities: the joint commitment of the Municipality of Verin, Spain and the Municipality of Chaves, Portugal.
