Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The post requires:
- Professional expertise:
Extensive knowledge and experience of nuclear related trade activities including international trade practices;
- Trade control and Customs expertise: Extensive knowledge and experience of export controls and Customs practices, including customs investigations, related to nuclear proliferation and weapons of mass destruction (WMD)issues;
- Technical expertise: Appropriate knowledge of nuclear and dual use items, technology and services;
- Analytical skills: Strong ability to identify and evaluate activities and networks that may be related to covert nuclear trade;
- Interpersonal skills: Ability to interface with personnel of differing nationalities and cultural backgrounds to effectively participate in multicultural teamwork and diplomatic skills to cooperate with Member States;
- Communication skills: Demonstrated ability to write analytical and technical documents and to speak clearly and effectively;
- Learning attitude focused on keeping abreast of new nuclear trade, trade controls and technological developments and maintaining expertise; acquiring a good knowledge of Safeguards objectives legal framework, and core processes.
- High degree of reliability in handling confidential information.


Education, Experience and Language Skills

- University degree in relevant technical studies, social sciences or business; given the specificities of the field, equivalent qualification relevant to trade and export controls developed through training and other competencies acquired through experience within a commercial or national or international authority environment.
- At least 7 years of practical experience, including 5 years of recent experience in nuclear related trade, export controls or customs activities associated with nuclear or dual use items and services for civilian or military applications.
- Recent experience in nuclear related fuel cycle or non-proliferation issues in the industry or international/government service.
- Fluency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) an asset.


Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $67 395 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $43 942*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance. * Subject to change without notice
