An extension the World Youth Congress, the European Youth Congress (EYC) involves young people from all over Europe every other year. This year it will take place over one week in Izola, Slovenia. The focus of EYC 2011 will be on preparing for the Rio+20 Earth Summit next year in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Advocacy Training is a two-week intensive programme for young Europeans between the ages of 18-28. It starts at the European Youth Congress in Izola, Slovenia and continues include a series of meetings with policy makers and experts in Bonn, Brussels, London and PCI headquarters.
What do we mean by “Advocacy”?
When we talk about advocacy, we are talking about using a wide variety of methods and strategies to communicate a message about a particular issue or cause, which engages and inspires people to take action to bring about a positive change. The methods can include online strategies to street campaigns. By the end of the training, we hope that you will be able to design and develop your own campaign around Rio+20 in your home country. We also encourage you to organise a gathering to train your friends and other young people on the strategies you learned about to make your campaign come to fruition.
