We want to invite you to participate in our long-term volunteering project in Semper Avanti Association in Wroclaw. The project will start in June 2012 and will finish after nine months, means in February 2013.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a person who has open and caring nature towards disabled people and will be able to show young people, he/she will work with, that each of them is special, worthy and unique. Because of the special character of the work the volunteers should be able to loose their emotional and psychical barriers and fear in contact with mentally disabled people. Beside the volunteer should posses features like flexibility, patience, tolerance and responsibility. During the project volunteer will learn how to work with disabled people using many kinds of methods, how to work in a group and with group. Participation in the project is also a chance to develop complex social skills as well as less common but very interesting ones as e. g. art therapy. All of activities will be realized under supervision of experienced professionals.
What are the main tasks?
Volunteer will work with a group aged 4-25 or with young adults group (over 25 years old) depending on his/her needs and preferences. During the project the volunteer may choose one or several of the workshops she/he would like to work in: physiotherapy, group or individual rehabilitation, personal abilities, computer usage, social skills, nature workshop, household workshop, art therapy, music therapy, ceramic, psychological, speech therapy and the "room of the world experiencing" - the stimulation of all senses. All the workshop groups are not bigger than 5 people and are led by one or two professionals. Volunteer will assist them and will be organizing activities for the group together with the staff. Of course volunteer is very welcome to integrate his/her own ideas and projects into the program of the Association. Activities in the Association will start from 8.00am–14.00pm (Monday-Friday). Weekends will be days off.
Where?
Wroclaw is a capital of Lower Silesia region situated in south-west
Poland. Here live 750 thousand inhabitants. A big part of our region is mountains and this is the most tourist attractive place, not far from
Wroclaw. Wroclaw is one of the quickest developing cities in Poland. The reason is the geographical location- near to the German and Czech borders. It draws many western investors. Wroclaw itself is a beautiful city with many historic sites and very friendly atmosphere. We have 14 Universities and Academies and very good developed cultural live. The city is located on the Odra river and is called Polish Venice.

Volunteers are obligated to pay 10% of travel costs.

Please send your CV of the volunteer, motivation letter connected to particular project you want to participate in (MLC or Ostoja), please explain in this letter, why you are interested in the project, what do you expect from it, what could you bring in teh project (knowledge, skills, special motivation - anything you think could really help). all this document should be in English. In your e-mail please write also the name and contacts of your sending organization.
