Target group: Youth workers, Trainers, Project managers, The training is for all teachers & non-teaching staff in mainstream & special needs primary, secondary, & upper secondary schools, as well as youth & adult education. Participants require some familiarity with email, word-processing, & the Internet.
For participants from: Youth in Action Programme Countries.
Group size: 16 participants.
Details:
Education for sustainable development in school and adult education settings facilitates change, in knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours, towards leading more sustainable lifestyles. Tools such as documentary film-making can encourage and empower students to take action on local and global sustainable development issues.
Preparation:
Participants are requested to fill in a questionnaire before the course and prepare a short presentation describing their teaching context and how education for sustainable development is formally or informally addressed in their country. Participants will give their presentations at the beginning of the course.
Objectives:
The course aims to provide teachers/educators with:
• an overview of different approaches to education for sustainable development;
• a transformative pedagogical framework promoting education for sustainable development;
• experience making a documentary film;
• classroom activities which motivate and engage learners;
• opportunities to meet and share practices with participants from other countries;
• information about European Union funding, school partnerships and projects.
Pedagogy:
• Approaches to education for sustainable development;
• Theories and practices for transformative learning;
• Intercultural dialogue.
Methodology:
The course emphasises hands-on, collaborative learning. Participants are requested to bring their laptop and digital camera (or digital camcorder), to become more familiar with their own equipment. Details about free software to be downloaded will be given prior to the course. Microsoft Windows is the main operating system used; support is available for Mac users. Visits to places of educational and cultural interest are integrated throughout the course. All course and additional materials are given to participants in electronic format.
Follow-up:
A post-course questionnaire will be given to participants on the last day of the course to collect feedback about the course, its contents, organisation, teaching methods, trainers, and materials, as well as to assess if and how the course succeeded in empowering participants with the skills and confidence to introduce new activities in their teaching contexts.Participants will be encouraged to remain in email contact with each other and the trainers, to support and share activities undertaken after the course, disseminate resources, and plan future collaborations and international projects. The main trainer will contact participants 6 months after the course, requesting participants to review new activities they have tried with their students as well as identify any barriers preventing implementation.
Certification:
A certificate of attendance is presented to participants at the end of the course and the EuroPass Mobility Certificate is also available.
Costs:
Participants are responsible for funding their own costs. Teachers, school staff, teacher trainers, youth and adult educators from EU and EFTA/EEA countries (except those living in the training host country, Finland) are eligible for funding from the European Commission, Lifelong Learning Programme to participate on courses. This course is registered in the Europa Comenius-Grundtvig Training Database of approved courses. The process to apply for funding should start as early as possible. Up to 6 nights accommodation, breakfasts, 4 lunches and 1 dinner: 650.00€ - Course Fee: 750€
