Project 6: "Discovering Ability in Disability"

The goal of the project is to provide support for institutions working with disabled children/young people/adults, as well as to provide opportunities for volunteers who would like to gain experience in working with those who have disabilities (especially children). Project activities include teaching, organizing activities such as arts and crafts, sports and games, as well as spending time with those who are disabled to enhance their mental and physical abilities as well as providing emotional support. Project requires long term volunteers and at least a general knowledge of Turkish (6 - 12 months).

Project 7: "Caring for the Elderly"

The goal of this project is to provide support for centres working with the elderly, primarily through the volunteers working with the staff to care for the elderly. Project activities include spending time reading or talking with them, helping with chores and food services, helping the elderly perform daily tasks as well as simple physical exercises. Aging adults and those with disabilities can gain significant health benefits with a moderate amount of physical activity, therefore a primary aspect of this project is to provide simple fun exercises in a relaxed group setting. This enhances bodily movement and stimulates coordination, balance and supplies interactive cooperation as a group. This project requires long term EVS volunteers (6 - 12 months).

Project 8: "Building Bridges"

The goal of this project is to provide character building and educational programs in a fun and entertaining way, since children have the ability to easily learn principles that will positively affect their future. The performances and animation programs encourage children and teenagers as to the importance of education and create a means of intercultural communication between the volunteers and the children. This promotes intercultural understanding and friendships between those from different backgrounds and cultures and helps to further educational motivation. Project activities can include musical performances, theatrical performances, pantomime, clown shows, puppet shows, organizing games for the children, balloon sculpting, face painting, arts and crafts activities, and the distribution of educational/motivational materials. The themes conveyed through these performances and activities can be the following: environmental awareness, health and hygiene, the importance of academic and vocational education, teamwork and interpersonal relations, safety, etc. Project requires long term EVS volunteers (6 - 12 months).
