CULTURE GOES EUROPE (CGE) – Soziokulturelle Initiative Erfurt e.V. is going to implement a Trans- National Youth Seminar within the YiA 5.1 program of the EC on the topic of digital media and youth participation with the title SocietyCon – Shaping a European understanding of the 21st century.
The project will consist of:
1. APV (Advanced Planning Visit, duration 1 day (venue not fixed yet);
2. Trans National Youth Seminar taking place in Erfurt, Germany duration 4 days;
3. Evaluation meeting duration, duration 1 day (venue not fixed yet).
Recent political events like the Arab spring show the growing importance of digital media in terms of increasing chances of active (political) participation. Following this SocietyCon will mainly deal with the various possibilities for young people to participate actively through digital media. Therefore the participants are going take part in workshops, which will provide them with On- and Offline knowledge of expression and deepen their abilities concerning media literacy. It will concretely deal with approaches such as Open Governance, E- democracy and blogging as well as debating, public speech and diplomacy through the methods of non- formal education. Corresponding to the principles of structured dialogue during the meeting participants are going to meet political decision makers as well as political authorities and use their gained knowledge on a local level within panel discussions. Another aim of the seminar is to create an official guideline of speaking with local authorities and ways to implement the achievements in youth work in reality and virtuality. SocietyCon will provide the experienced youth workers with a platform on an international level to actively exchange their experiences and also have possibilities to find out about cultural diversities and equalities. The Youth workers, multipliers and youth policy makers are going to get open space to discuss the right usage of digital media and possibilities of political participation in youth work. Through their increased level of competence concerning media literacy they will have the abilities to implement it in their local communities and strengthen the consciousness for the importance of digital media for civic participation on a local level. The meeting is going to take place in the second half of 2012. This call is only open for program countries (EU27, EFTA + pre-accession). Depending on the date of publication of application packages for 2012 under YiA it may happen that CGE Erfurt e.V. is requesting new forms from the potential partners individually.
