Details:
Cento passi, One hundred steps. It is the title of a movie shot in Italy few years ago ago about the life and the experience of Peppino Impastato, a young antimafia fighter, killed by organized crime in 1978. There were just one hundred steps between the house of Peppino and the house of Gaetano "Tano" Badalamenti, one of the most powerful mafia bosses of the '70s and leader of the narco-traffics between Europe and US in that period. Today both houses host a “Museum of memory” and are the milestones of several non formal education activities against mafia and to prevent juvenile crime. Peppino was indeed famous (and therefore dangerous) because he used irony and the power of radio broadcasting to combat mafia bosses. We would like to organize in the two houses an international youth exchange from the 1st till the 14th of May 2012. These dates overlap with the anniversary of the killing, incurred on the 9th of May 1978, celebrated every years with different initiatives and a concert of both young and adult musicians. During the exchange, participants will be hosted in the house formerly owned by Tano Badalamenti (today owned by the City Administration of Cinisi and managed by the family of Peppino Impastato and his friends) and will join several non formal education activities connected to crime prevention and youth active citizenship. They’ll also do some light manual work for the maintenance of the museum, such as painting walls or wooden doors and will help in organizing the concert on the 9th of May. Interested organization should send us their curriculum, explaining their specific interest in taking part in the project. NO APV is foreseen, because the exchange will take place at the beginning of the eligibility period of next deadline of Youth in Action (1st of February 2012) Each participating organization should send 5 participants plus one leader. Travel costs of all participants and leader to Palermo will be covered 90%, food and lodging will be offered for free and there is no participation fee. We’d like to give priority to organizations dealing with crime prevention and/or young offender inclusion.
Working language: English.

SCADENZA: 1st of February 2012.
