Do you know an outstanding personality who helps building up a European society you like to live in? Do you know a woman or man who is active in shaping Europe's peaceful and responsible role in the world, someone who is already today committed to building a Europe that young people find attractive and worthwhile to live in the future?
Each year the Schwarzkopf Foundation awards the "Schwarzkopf Europe Award" to a public figure for their enthusiastic and valuable efforts for Europe. Only young Europeans (14-28 years) are eligible to nominate a candidate. Please pass this on to any young people you know.
As possible nominees we are looking for a public person who is active for Europe, for example by: - fostering peaceful co-existence in Europe and worldwide; - protecting the freedom of expression and democracy in Europe and worldwide; - demonstrating courage to stand against repressive, undemocratic regimes, corruption, ill-treatment, and torture; - developing and/or implementing landmark European policies; - striving for sustainable development.
The first "Schwarzkopf Europe Award" was awarded in 2003 to Carla del Ponte, at that time the Chief Prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. In 2011 European Commissioner Connie Hedegaard got the award for her role in the fight against Climate Change. Other award winners include Navid Kermani (author and islamic academic), Aliaksandr Lahvinets (political activist in Belarus), Alexander Stubb (Foreign Minister of Finland) and Jean-Claude Juncker, Prime Minister of Luxembourg. See a list of all award winners here.
Please submit your nominations here until 31st of May 2012.
All nominations will be assessed by a jury, consisting of all young people who received the award "Young Europeans of the years 1997 to 2012" of the Schwarzkopf Foundation. In July you will be informed about the decision of the Jury!
