SALTO Inclusion & Portuguese National Agency for Youth in Action is looking for the following trainers: 2 international trainers.

What is TC Ability about?

The training aims to develop youth workers’ competencies, tools and confidence to include young people with disabilities in their activities. We will use exercises that make you more at ease in dealing with disability, demystifying what is disability and work around the disability to improve the interaction between young people but also adults around them. We will visit organisations that are already working with disability to learn from their practice.


Who is the training course for?

This is a training course for 25 youth workers (everybody working with young people), who want to gain skills, tools and confidence to work with people with mental, physical and sensory disabilities. The course is aimed at youth workers WITHOUT experience in working with disability, but who would like to include young people with disabilities in their activities – or learn to work better with them.

Working language is English. Applicants should be able to work in (international) English.


Dates and Venue

• Participants arrive Monday 13 May and departure Saturday 18 May 2013 – 4 working days;
• Team should arrive Sunday 12 May and depart 18 May evening or 19 May;
• In Bragança, 1 hour drive from Porto, Portugal – the venue is wheelchair accessible;
• Participants will be lodged in double rooms – team in single rooms
• We will have a dedicated team room at the venue for preparation and meetings.


Methodology

We will use non-formal educational methods – based on learning by doing and exchanging. Participants should be ready to actively take part and contribute to the programme. We will ask participants to prepare themselves before the course (e.g. collect information on disability, on the situation in their country, contributions to free time activities, etc.).


Requested trainer profile

We are looking for trainers with the following experience and competencies:
• Have experience and expertise in working with different disabilities in youth projects. Know practical approaches to smoothly integrate young people with disabilities in activities;
• Knowledge about different (funding or other) schemes across Europe that aim to integrate persons with disabilities in mainstream activities – or willing to document yourself about this;
• Be able to give participants self-confidence in working with people with disabilities;
• Experience in youth work training, non-formal education methods and working with international groups. And in writing up / explaining methods;
• Good command of (international) English (speaking, understanding and writing);
• Available for the course dates and at least one of the suggested prep dates.

Tasks for the trainer team

• Participate in the prep-meeting, the course, an evaluation day at the end of the course and regular communication with the organisers;
• Finetune the aims, objectives of the course (in cooperation with the organisers) and devise a programme and methods that will reach these aims;
• Implement this educational programme during the course, prepare the participants (before the course), take care of group dynamics and the learning – leading to a Youthpass certificate (with part III);
• Document the innovative parts of the training course and add them to the SALTO Toolbox. Document relevant outcomes of discussions and working groups (to be decided together);
• Devise an evaluation system (together with the organisers) to measure the impact of the course and write up an evaluation report based on the evaluation results.


Working conditions

The training programme and methods will be finetuned at the preparation meeting at the venue of the course (Porto/Bragança) with the trainers end of February 2013.
• Suggested dates are 21-22 February 2013 (arrival 20 February – departure 23 February);
• Alternative: 25-26 February (arrival 24 February – departure 27 February).

*The local travel, food & lodging during the prep-meeting and the course will be covered by the Portuguese NA.

* Each trainer will get the SALTO trainer fee of 280€ for the 4 course days (1120€) plus a lump sum of 1120€ for all preparation, communication, evaluation, documentation, travel time, etc. This makes a total of 2240€ (all included) which will be paid upon receiving the required documentation. You are responsible for all VAT, social security and other formalities.
