Details:
Every three years, the German Child and Youth Welfare Congress (DJHT) provides a central meeting place for Germany’s child and youth welfare community. The visitors - professionals as well as volunteers from all areas of child and youth welfare - represent associations, financing structures, local authorities, youth NGOs, ministries at national and regional levels, universities and more. With an average of more than 30.000 visitors the DJHT is Europe’s biggest event in child and youth welfare. In the past, the DJHT has often served as a hub for new ideas in youth policy; it has also addressed European and international topics but not given them much priority. That is all set to change at the 15th DJHT from 3rd to 5th June 2014, when JUGEND für Europa and the Child and Youth Welfare Association (AGJ) stage a special European programme of events and a “Marketplace Europe” as part of the DJHT’s general exhibition. The DJHT’s overarching principles: Living Diversity, Enabling Participation, Safeguarding Professionalism and Developing Policy will be explored in more than 300 workshops, panel discussions and project presentations. 34 of them will provide a translation into English. The European programme is an opportunity to learn about youth empowerment methodologies in marginalized communities across Europe, intercultural learning schedules in kindergartens, the impact of mobility on youngsters in care, social work in Switzerland … to name just a few topics. More details on the special European programme of events will be published soon. The “Marketplace Europe” will be a meeting point for professionals, organisations and providers with a focus on European and international youth work. Information on the new EU Programme Erasmus+ YOUTH IN ACTION will be available. Young people will share their stories of European mobility; counselling will be available how to introduce a European Dimension to various child and youth welfare activities.
Costs:
Taking part in the DJHT is free of charge. You only have to cover your travel costs and take care for your accommodation. Coming from an YOUTH IN ACTION programme country, applying online gives you a chance that your National Agency in the EU programme Erasmus+ YOUTH IN ACTION might decide to cover part of your travel costs. Participants of Non-YOUTH IN ACTION countries need to cover 100% of their travel costs. There are a variety of cheap options to stay in Berlin, starting from couch-surfing, youth hostels and hotels. The main organiser of the DJHT, the AGJ, cooperates with the portal to facilitate finding an accommodation.
