Had many difficulties, problems and challenges to prepare and organize international volunteer project? Something went not as planned in your project? Problems with activities, participants, project team? Who has not faced some, or all of it, or even more and other problems while preparing or participating to an international volunteer project of whatever kind?

There are so many things that need to be taken into account – and there are so many things that can (and sometimes do) go wrong – that can completely discourage a volunteer from continuing to sacrifice their time and effort for an organisation. Quite often these problems and failures are caused by a lack of planning, effective teamwork or communication. Sometimes they are the result of external factors that we forgot to take into account and did not make contingency for. And sometimes it is just a case of how to maintain our own enthusiasm in the face of unexpected and problematic situation, or also just new situation. During the training we'd like to look at possible problems and mistakes, and learn from them in order to avoid them and prevent them in the future activities. Or make them even worse! We want to share bad experiences and make bad advises, so that learning from them and acting as contrary to bad advise we can improve international volunteer projects. So if you are wondering what you can do, in order to reduce or minimise all these problems and risks and ensure that all your effort is not in vain and that volunteering will actually prove rewarding and fun for you in the future – this is the right seminar for you. The project is organized by SVIT-Ukraine in partnership with SCI branches and partner organizations, with support of Youth in Action programme of European Union and will take place in Lviv from 23rd of June till 1st of July 2014.
Aims, objectives and content of the training:
In this training we want to focus on what goes wrong when volunteer projects do not turn out as was expected, what were the reasons for their failings, and what steps everyone needs to take, both in the preparation, implementation and follow-up phases, in order to ensure that such mistakes or failures do not re-occur in the future. During the program we will look specifically at such issues as cooperation and team work, planning and division of responsibilities, frustration of international communication and cooperation; aspects of leadership, coordination and decision-making in team working together on a project; managing time, people and resources, managing activities and other aspects related to preparation and realization of international volunteer activities. We will also explore possibilities of Erasmus+ program, together develop ideas for future projects and applications for them in the framework of Erasmus+, that could be submitted by voluntary organizations involved in the project.
Situation in Ukraine
Short note about the situation in Ukraine. The situation in most regions of the country remains stable and safe except for the south-east where unrest and protest activities involving militarized groups are continuing. Ukrainian government is taking steps to stop them and restore peace in the affected regions. These regions are located more than 1100 km away from where the training will take place, and therefore will have no impact on either activity, or travel of the participants to the project and back. We have organized two international projects in April and May 2014 in Lviv with almost 50 participants, nobody experienced any difficulties neither during the project nor during the travel in Lviv or between Kiev and Lviv because of the situation in the eastern regions of Ukraine.
