WeWorld Intervita is a non-profit non-governmental organisation for development cooperation, recognised by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; we are independent, non-denominational and apolitical. Established in Milan in 1999, WeWorld Intervita works in Italy, Asia, Africa and Latin America to support children, women and local communities in the fight against poverty and inequality and to promote sustainable development. WeWorld Intervita collaborates with a network of other civil-society organisations to give the most vulnerable people a voice on the Italian and international political agenda, and we are involved in the main networks protecting children’s and women’s rights.
WeWorld Intervita adopts the approach of human rights as a conceptual and methodological basis for its actions. WeWorld Intervita works in seven countries in the development Countries in collaboration with local partners in supporting or implementing projects designed to: protect children, ensure their access to education, to ensure their health and that of their mothers, promote the participation of children, gender equality and women’s rights. Education and health are priorities, so the projects are based on a sponsorship program, which is implemented in kindergartens and primary schools for pupils aged 4 to 8.
WeWorld Intervita works in India in collaboration with local and International partners since 1998 in projects on child protection and education. At the moment WeWorld Intervita collaborates with 6 Indian NGOs implementing projects in different states (Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Andrha Pradesh, Karnataka e Maharastra) for a total average budget of 600.000 Euro/year, raised through child long distance sponsorship programs. WeWorld Intervita does not implement any project but co-finances, coordinates, monitors and supports the partners in the implementation of the projects. Since August 2013 WeWorld Intervita has obtained the approval from the Indian authorities to open a Liaison Office (Country Representative expa plus 3 national staff) in Mumbai for the coordination of the projects. WeWorld Intervita works also in Nepal, with the same approach.
