Details:
The project “Mainstreaming Peace Education – Competence Framework” responds to needs of young people and youth organisations working with non-formal education in the youth sector. While peace education gained more and more relevance in non-formal youth work over the past years, it is characterised by the same shortcomings that also describe non-formal education in the youth field: low level of conceptualisation and diverging quality, competing or lack of coherent competence framework, and a lack of recognition.
Against this background the project would like to reach the following objectives:
• Developing a Peace Education Competence Framework including knowledge, skills and attitudes require, evaluation indicators, assessment methods as well as educational guidelines for achieving the competences;
• Increasing the recognition of peace education by linking the Framework with the Youthpass and Europass certification system;
• Increasing the quality of peace education activities in the youth sector.
Within the frame of the project a seminar will be held to bring together peace educators in the youth field to foster a dialogue and exchange about competence development in educational programmes on peace education.
The seminar would like to address the following objectives:
• Provide a platform for peace educators to discuss their understanding of peace education;
• Share a 1st proposal for a competence framework on peace education and to review it in a mutual process with the participants;
• Develop a 2nd draft for a competence framework on peace education;
• Provide the opportunity for an exchange of approaches and methods on peace education among peace educators from Europe.
As a result of the seminar a second draft for a competence framework on peace education in the youth field will be designed and later on tested in training courses and seminars on peace education on local, national or international levels.
The participants should have the following profile:
• Participants should be residing in the United Kingdom, Germany, Latvia, Turkey or the Netherlands;
• Good knowledge of peace education or related themes such as: global education, sustainable development, social pedagogy, non-formal & intercultural learning and personal development;
• Work experience as an educator or project manager in civil society organisations working on peace education in the youth field;
• Subsequent capabilities to provide constructive criticism to the pre-developed competence framework mentioned above;
• Motivation to take part in a mutual learning process in a highly intercultural setting;
• Good level of English to follow the course and ability to participate fully in the event;
• European volunteers under the EVS programme are NOT allowed to participate!
The participants are expected to participate fully in all activities. Unauthorized absence from activities and workshops will not be permitted and will result in cancellation of the travel reimbursements. We would really appreciate energetic and active participation!
