ARGOMENTO: This training is intended for youth workers who would like to learn more about hate speech online. The aim of the training course is to learn more about the tools and methods to address this and to work with young people to counteract hate speech online.

Details:
Aims and objectives of the training:

• Learn about hate speech, particularly online hate speech.
• Use human rights education activities for action against hate speech and the risks it poses to democracy and the well-being of young people.
• Learn concrete tools for addressing hate speech, including receive training on the use of Bookmarks (Bookmarks is a manual for combating hate speech online through human rights education. The manual has been designed to support the No Hate Speech Movement, the Council of Europe’s youth Campaign against hate speech online. The manual is designed for working with young people).
• Receive information on the Erasmus+: Youth in Action programme and the Council of Europe’s No Hate Speech Movement.
• Plan and develop small educational follow-up activity, multiplier events or campaign activity.
• Profile of participants.
• Youth workers who would like to work on combating hate speech in their future work.
• Participants should be in direct contact with youth on a regular basis (weekly).
• Participants must be comfortable with English as a working language.
• Participants should be willing to stay in touch and cooperate with the national campaign committees for the No Hate Speech Movement afterwards.
• Participants should be willing to plan and implement a small educational follow-up activity or multiplier event after the seminar.
Background
What is online hate speech?

Online hate speech are texts, words, images, videos and symbols that are used to spread hate, threats and incite violence through in the Internet against a person or a group. The growing intolerance and xenophobia is concerning, and hate speech has become increasingly present in the public, especially on the internet. Young people are some of the most active users of new technology and social media, and are directly concerned as both agents and victims of online hate speech.

Arrival on Monday before 17.00 and departure on Friday morning. A detailed programme and further information will be sent to selected participants.
Costs:
This project is financed by the Youth in Action Programme. Being selected for this course, all costs (accommodation, travel, visa, etc.) relevant to participation in the course will be covered by the NAs involved in this project - except a participation fee which varies from call to call and country to country. Please contact your NA to learn more about the financial details, and how to arrange the booking of your travel tickets and the reimbursement of your travel expenses.
