Schwarzkopf Europe Prize

Data: 04/06/2008

Since 2003, the Heinz-Schwarzkopf-Foundation awards the “Schwarzkopf Europe Prize”.

With this award institutions or persons in public life are to be honoured who do in a special way contribute to fostering European co-operation and integration and who shape Europe’s peaceful and responsible role in the world. We are looking for someone who is already today committed to building a Europe that young people find attractive and worthwhile to live in the future. This could for example be achieved through significant activities and contributions in the fields of

- fostering peaceful co-existence in Europe and worldwide,
- protecting the freedom of expression and democracy in Europe and worldwide,
- demonstrating courage to stand against repressive, undemocratic regimes, corruption, ill-treatment, and torture,
- developing and/or implementing landmark European policies,
- fighting for sustainable development.
So far, the following personalities have been awarded with the prize:
Carla des Ponte (The Chief Prosecutor of the Yugoslavian Tribunal)
Navid Kermani (Author and Islamic academic)
Dieter Kosslick (Director of the Berlin International Film Festival)
Aliaksandr Lahvinets (political activist in Belarus)
